Ian Maitland was one of a handful of structural engineers to be called on to assess an old, free standing building (stables) that we own. Its sides were bowing out and one end had two large cracks. A corner fell during the assessment.
Ian’s solution was unique and enabled the saving of a small structure on one end which we had feared we would lose. The work itself was done with thought and the result was impressive.
I have worked with Ian over the past 10 years on various projects in both the metropolitan and regional areas. I have always found him to be helpful and courteous with not only me but the other consultants and trades on site. He has fantastic practical knowledge of old buildings to accompany his engineering skills which has proved invaluable in devising effective solutions in conjunction with others. It has been a great pleasure to work with him over the years.

I believe the structural restoration by MCSE of St. George’s Cathedral will be seen as an exemplar for future work of a similar nature on important heritage buildings.
